Problem Solving Through Teamwork

I'm a front-end web developer with a background in design. I taught myself sass/less, css, and PHP out of necessity in order to migrate a large healthcare website over to Drupal from an outdated platform about 6 years ago and haven't looked back. Before I transitioned into being more of a developer, I worked as a designer with a mix of both print and web. I've got over 10 years of experience and no matter what I do, it always comes back to a love of working on small teams to problem solve in order to create the best user experience for the customer. I work at Carilion Clinic, the largest healthcare provider in south western Virginia, on a small team that builds websites from the ground up. Our primary focus is Drupal but we are adept at working on other platforms as well.

I'm proficient in HTML, Sass, CSS, Twig, PHP, Git workflow, Node, jQuery, and prefer working with command line to GUIs. I enjoy learning new technologies and am currently taking a deep dive into Angular and have found that it's way harder than anything I've tried to learn before. Especially coming from a design background. I enjoy a challenge though and have rolled up my sleeves to get my hands dirty. Along with developing websites, I'm proficient at creating wireframes and mockups. My weapon of choice is Adobe Experience Designer. XD has been a game changer and continues to be my favorite tool for quickly producing interactive prototypes that can be shared with clients.

When I'm not at my desk, I enjoy being outdoors running trails or exploring remote gravel roads on my bike. I also enjoy backpacking. A lot. I post about my trips over on my blog when I can find the time to write and edit photos. I've got a wife and 2 boys and we call Roanoke, Virginia our home.
