The terrain reminded us of our old stomping grounds in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina. Long, endless ascending through thick forest followed by rocky ridgeline cruising. Descend and repeat. Total climbfest.

The Lion's Plateau
This year, our February trip found us in the Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia. The trails are not blazed. And the wildlife is a little bigger than in most places on the east coast.

A New Sense of Cold
We elected that it would be safer to bail out sooner and head down Rt. 261. And so, we ended up hitching a ride back into town with a nice family driving a warm Jeep. Our first DNF.
